Overwhelmed. There's not a better word to describe the predominant feeling of the past week and a half as we prep for a potential move. It's a word most people would probably use to describe the process of readying ones home to go on the market but I'm talking about a completely different definition of the word.
As I mentioned here, we ended 2014 with a decision to stay put and potentially move closer to our church and those we've started to build relationships with over the past year. Shortly after that decision was made, we ran across a house we really liked in an area that put us close to everything and everyone we wanted to be near and here we are fervently packing stuff up, fixing the litany of little things that have piled up over the past 10 years, and painting (and painting, and painting).
Lake living was a dream that manifested shortly before we were married but as of late we began to feel like that wasn't where God wanted us, at least at this stage in our lives. After struggling and praying for relationships for a couple of years they have started to flow in and moving away in a few years just didn't seem like a logical next step. What we weren't prepared for was how quickly God would move in confirming the words of Matthew 6:33: "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
Keeping that in mind is a daily struggle but the influx of blessings over the past week are a constant reminder and encouragement, from last Sunday's sermon on the very topic of seeking God first and allowing him to carry out his plans, to nabbing the last storage unit at the lot right around the corner from our house. Then there was the 1 day turn around on finding the perfect home for our Great Dane (who was not doing well with all of the change) that we were previously unable to re-home.
When we needed boxes, a call to a friend who'd recently moved yielded multiple carloads of nice sturdy Uhaul boxes to pack our stuff in and a clean garage ready for the installation of a lift (which with any luck I can negotiate some time on). The decision to put our house on the market also ended a couple of years of procrastination getting our siding replaced and provided a contractor who offered to pressure wash our porch and driveway as well as let us throw anything we needed to into his dump trailer, giving us a place to put all the junk we had that wasn't even worthy of the free section of Craigslist.
Don't get me wrong, we're tired, a little anxious, and we (ok mostly me) have had a few hair on fire moments (I know, walking right into the bald jokes), but the blessings just keep pouring in and we're enjoying the heck out of this process and are actually having fun knocking all this stuff out together. It's been a whirlwind of a week and there's plenty more to come but we're excited to see what God has in store for us next.
Stay tuned...
